Think of an NP as a bridge between a registered nurse and a medical doctor – they have four more years of education than an RN, have completed a master’s degree, and are board certified in a particular field of study (example: family medicine). Nurse practitioners diagnose, prescribe medication, and treat a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services with an added emphasis on disease prevention and health management.
